Here are two unpublished poems by Ivan Arguelles:

“beowulf”

in god-mead drowned sings song
bard of baleful harp-notes heard
oh th'unruly heart's found flung
thus thrust sword's swerving side
into depths thoughtlessly thrown
no mere man's mind muddied
but e'er shines day's glow-sheen
anon through death's meadow drear

“beyond the reach of memory

it was only last night
a hundred billion trillion
Light Years and eons more
than what my Eye perceived
was I aloft in the dark cradle
beyond the reach of memory
spent of breath released
from meat’s feverish itch
driving and driven through
the massive and intricate syntax
of light a glaze of antiquity
of sands without reckoning
a pyramid of thought and
all was loss!
adrift without words a sleep
lavender silk ropes slipped
from mortal grip the bulk
of Time less than the weight
of dew evaporating in dream
beyond the reach of memory
afloat in the vast of the Void
passing and being passed
through the wilderness of the Dead
after which there is naught
but the poetry of soundlessness
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
shall I erect the steeple?
shall the denizens of the other
time re enter this moment
when life itself becomes the
other in a mirror of absent forms?
beyond the reach of memory
nestled in the bank of Space
where inch after inch topples
a water of beautiful decay
until what remains is the Planet
of unknown birth and
but why go on?
come crashing in the single Ear
the green the red the folded blank
the endless ennui of yellow
the derelict splendor of violet
all the wonders of Sight
when to the blind no anchor
avails and to the deaf
shot through a lightning bolt
an ampersand settles accounts
with the glazier’s pallid frost
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
will You go with me then
beyond the reach of memory?
will you set your unfelt foot
down where nothing ever was?
will you surrender simply
what you never owned
what never you could describe?

will You?
beyond the reach of memory
realm of shifting nameless Cloud

         where nothing ever was
